Education That Works

Our students work hard. In turn, our department works hard for them. The undergraduate and graduate degrees we offer focus on five different research areas in materials science and engineering. As leaders in research and teaching, we prepare our graduates to excel in their careers and make a difference in the world.

Undergraduate Programs

Bachelor of Science

Our ABET-accredited B.S. degrees certify engineering professionals. Read more about our undergraduate programs and various student and career opportunities.

Graduate Programs

Master’s Degrees

Our Master of Science degree (MSMSE) with thesis is intended for graduate students interested in advanced research. Our non-thesis master’s degrees (MMMSE, MNAE) are designed to prepare students for professional engineering careers and can be completed online or in the classroom.

Doctor of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering is pursued by outstanding students with an intense interest in independent study and research. It requires advanced coursework and research beyond the master’s degree, a written and oral comprehensive preliminary examination, a written dissertation, and a final oral defense of the research.

Our Master’s and Ph.D. Degrees

  • Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering (MSMSE)
  • Master of Materials Science Engineering (MMSE)
  • Master of Nanoengineering Engineering (MNAE)
  • Graduate Minor
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Materials Science and Engineering

Areas of Specialization

  • Structural Materials
  • Computational Materials Science
  • Soft Materials and Biomaterials
  • Structural Characterization
  • Electronic, Optical, and Magnetic Materials

Distance Education

Can’t make it to campus? Through Engineering Online, we offer two non-thesis master’s degree (MMSE, MNAE) with specialization in the areas listed above.
